A defibrillator is used to give high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to help improve survival from sudden cardiac arrest. These external emergency devices can either be manual or automated, and constitute an important step in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Most defibrillators are equipped with color display screens and can function as ECG monitors as well. Some advanced defibrillators double as multi-parameter monitors for high level patient care, able to measure and record up to 10 physiological parameters, such as NIBP, SpO2, 12-lead ecg and etCO2. Hospitals, healthcare facilities, and emergency response teams have a higher chance of reviving patients from sudden cardiac arrest with reliable, highly efficient defibrillators.
