Colposcopes

Colposcopes

Colposcopes are magnifying instruments used by doctors to closely examine the cervix, vagina, and vulva for any signs of premalignant and malignant lesions. These instruments are mainly used to prevent cervical cancer, but also in assessment of diethylstilbestrol (DES) exposure in utero, immunosuppression such as HIV infection, abnormal appearance of the cervix, or as part of sexual assault forensic examination. Some colposcopes are capable of providing dual visual feed for both physician and assistant, while others deliver direct live feed to a digital monitor and capture images for documentation. These have high quality light sources that provide the needed illumination to produce true tissue color. Colposcopes enhance the diagnostic capabilities of doctors, reduce procedure time, and help in saving more lives.
